What Do You Do When You're Not Seeing Success?

Your followers are barely increasing, your email subscribers are inching slowly, and you've only made a few sales.

You wonder if you'll ever see success online.

Your business may not be where you want it to be, but I want you to remember... you are one step closer than you were yesterday.

Online business is truly 80% mindset. Many people give up far before they should because they give in to self-doubt and impatience, while often just below the surface of what they can see amazing things are actually starting to slowly happen.

Do not let that be you, girlfran'!

Here are my top three rules for you:

1. Give yourself grace.

You're no different than every single successful person online who started with 0 followers, subscribers, and sales. Listen to story after story and you will see how many of them wanted to give up, but because they didn't, they ended up seeing success. I cannot tell you the amount of times I was tempted to throw my Mac out the window and surrender to chocolate ice cream! There are many nights I spent crying, feeling frustrated, and flat out wanting to give up. But winners don't give up so I never did.

2. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Big losses can hurt, but there are many small issues that will happen on your path to success that are more hurdles than anything. These tinier obstacles might annoy you but are important to keep in perspective. Your tech stops working one day. And you can't send out an email. Or your sales page has temporarily disappeared. Or your Web site is not loading. I've had my moments in tech hell like anyone else. But I always stop to remember it's just temporary! The truth is that technology is an amazing thing that allows online businesses to run practically on autopilot so I can put up with minor annoyances, and so can you.

3. Enjoy the journey.

We're often rushing to the destination, and forget to smell the gorgeous pink flowers on the way. So I encourage you to do one thing that I wish I had from the very beginning. Keep a journal. Write down your small wins and mini failures (actually future wins in disguise) as you go. Looking back now on the countless things I had no clue how to do - like creating a funnel - it's so empowering to know I was able to master them. Every now and then, I'll find an iPhone note I wrote or old emails where I unintentionally documented my journey that feel so rewarding to look back on. Every six months, make a list of all of your accomplishments. You'll see it grow, and it will increase your self-belief.

There are some things in life not worth getting upset over and making small but consistent gains is one of them because you are moving forward, maybe not on your perfect time schedule, but you are. If you're seeing signs that nothing is working, then you need to figure it out. Obviously that is a problem. But if you have small stumbling blocks on your way to success, this is what you do. You assess the situation. Are these typical mistakes on your journey of learning that have you feeling frustrated, or are they something more significant that may indicate you're headed in the wrong direction? If you're not sure, listen to your gut.

But don't give in to frustration at the first sign of a challenge or difficulty. Because all that time you've put into what you're building will have been worthless. And one thing you can't get back is time. So don't quit when the going gets tough. Because if you do, you're not going to make it in any business. You're going to come across a lot of hurdles. You're going to come across failure after failure after failure. And you know what? You need to stick with it if you want to succeed, and you're going to have to change your mindset to get through it.

You have to keep your feet on the ground. You have to keep going. You can't just throw your hands in the air the first (or hundredth) time things don't go your way. Because if it were meant to be easy, everyone would do it. Amazing things were never accomplished without tremendous work. If you've been through anything big in your life - real trials and tribulations - you'll realize this is nothing. I've been through a lot. I've lost both of my parents. I've been through so much in my life that I didn't want to keep getting up and going, but I just had to. You just have to adapt to your situation.

And if you get into online marketing, you have to adapt to that situation too. People you know well likely won't support you. They may doubt you. They may think you're crazy. They may think all these negative things about you so you have to have strength. You have to believe in yourself and know that it doesn't matter what all these other people think because actually they're wrong. Of course, there are some not so good people in online business, just like anywhere else in the world such as on Wall Street or in well-known companies. But there are also many good people making a significant impact on others' lives. You just have to find the right people and align with them.

Let go of the people who want to be negative towards you and who don't want to support you. Life is too short. You could be gone tomorrow. Don't let anyone strong arm you and tell you any differently, or that you're not supposed to be doing what you're doing. You know, in your heart, your soul, and your gut, what you should pursue. If it's your instinct to be in this business, don't let anyone ever talk you out of it.

Be allergic to excuses whether that's not seeing immediate success or having support from friends and family. Put in the hard work now, and if you don't give up, you're bound to see results later.

Always keep your resolve to succeed. That's what winners are made of. An unrelenting determination that no one nor nothing can crush.
